Ok, I have been fighting with Nautilus since install. It keeps crashing or hangs every time it is used. When this happens I never receive an error or anything. So I have absolutely no clue what is happening.
Not sure what to do with it. I have even reinstalled it several times and also did a complete reinstall of the distro just to see if that would help, but it doesn't.
I use Nautilus constantly and if it doesn't work, neither do I. So, regrettably I must move on to something that works.
I had this same issue with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, not to this degree, but almost. SE has inherited all Ubuntu's bugs, which are becoming more dominant with each and every new release.
Maybe think about crossing over to a Debian Stable as a base?
Interesting. I had hoped that releasing it a couple of months after the standard Ubuntu and taking the latest updates before generation would have avoided this kind of thing.
Also, using the LTS release as a base seemed like a good idea from a stability point of view. I cannot see me moving to Debian Stable. Even when I used Debian myself it didn't take me long to move onto the unstable branch. With desktop Linux, what you need is a good compromise between the two, and most of the time Ubuntu fulfills that role admirably.
Ooops! I did post "stable" didn't I? I meant Unstable. Anyways, I think I'm just going to move all the way away from Debian in general. Debian/buntu's have been the bes for damn near forever, but the latest release is just not all that. It breaks easier and things just do not work right, at least for me.
I never thought the day would come that I'd move away from it, but it has. I guess it's back to Slack or might even give a go with Fedora. It's been a wild ride, but this old fart has had enough and needs to take the next train home, where ever that may be I don't know.
I hope the day comes when I will return to Ubuntu, but with the way things are in Canonical Ltd. worrying more about their "partnerships" then their userbase, I truly doubt it.
Nothing against SE or it's creator/users, but I really need to board the next shuttle into the Abyss and leave Hell proper behind.
I keep getting this error: Notice: Undefined variable: mComment in /var/www/satanic/htdocs/forum/extensions/Notify/default.php on line 309

I have installed all the latest updates on the webserver including the latest version of the forum software. If anybody still has problems posting please let me know.
I think I am goin back to a Slackware base distro, am goin to give ImagineOS a shot. As for Arch, I never got the taste for it. That isn't to say it's a bad distro, because it isn't. Just not my taste.
Looks like an issue with the timezone not being set after an upgrade to PHP 5.3. Should be fixed now but as the error doesn't occur for me I can't be 100% sure.
Ok, I went back to Slackware proper. ImagineOS wouldn't even load up. Guess that's what I get for trying out a new distro. LMAO!
Edit: Sorry Garry, not fixed yet.

OK, that should finally be fixed. I created a new user for myself and managed to recreate the problem.
It turns out that the problem wasn't to do with the forum software or the notify plugin, but the fact that I'd removed the postfix package from the webserver.
Sorry about that. Seems to be working again now.
Good luck with Slackware - what do you think of it?
Well bro, with Ubuntu, I grew sort of "lazy" and with Slack, I have to "actually" do stuff for myself once again.
I left Slack for Ubuntu many moons ago and now I have returned to a farm that has become over grown with weeds and needs a ton of work. I can't just do it the "easy" way anymore. :P
It will take some getting used to again. But I can do it. If not, I can always go back to greener fields with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and stick with it for an eternity, because I am pretty certain that Canonical Ltd will just keep makin Ubuntu worse as we go.
Garry, if you feel like testing distros, I think you should give ArchLinux a try ;?). And if I manage to get enough motivation, I'll try to make AUR package for my icon theme and your satanic artwork.
Well, first, it's a rolling release system (which means there is no version for the distro itself, unlike Ubuntu. Which means one don't need to wait for 5 months to get the latest version of Firefox ;?). Second, they keep everything as close as possible to what is provided upstream. Third, the AUR system is really very good. It's kind of like PPA's, except one don't need to add any repository, one can search through all the available packages at once, and one can quite easily check that the package is what it is meant to be (because what you download is actually just a bash script that download the source from the official page, build it, and create the package out of it, so all one need is to know a little bash). And, last point, it is actually quite easy to configure, for a “Do it yourself” distribution.
