Help!: Please help this linux noob get started with SE.

    Sorry for being so vague, but I am having some real problems getting started. First off, hello & thanks for welcoming me to the forum. Now on to the Issues I'm having. I downloaded the undead CD but I found maverick to be too slow, choppy & lagging-especially for watching online videos. I used to have 11.10 & I had to do a whole new install because I screwed up my repository & wound up with more than one line error when I tried to download the packages individually (no big, I hated 11.10 anyway) Now I'm back to 11.04 and I would like to make it 11.04 SE but I can't seem to get the torrent to work right for the dvd (I admit that I am not tech savvy & know very little about torrenting anyway) and I am afraid that I may make the same mistakes I made with 11.10 if I try to download manually-thus screwing up my 11.04. I hate to ask for so much unsatanic hand holding but I sure would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

    No problem, we are here to help.

    I think you may have a few separate issues so I'll go through them individually:

    First of all, the torrent. All you need is a torrent client installed on your machine so that when you click on the link it runs and starts the download. Are you trying to download in Linux or Windows? Ubuntu comes with a torrent client called transmission. There are a few available for Windows, such as:

    Once you have a client installed, just and click on the link to download:

    http://linuxtracker.org/download.php?id=9e44f478198eb3201d09f670c11f6e3e71c375c6&f=Ubuntu%20Satanic%20Edition%20Release%20666.10%20[x86].torrent

    Secondly, you say you are "already on 11.04". If that means you have the standard Ubuntu 11.04 installed, then you can install the SE packages instead of downloading the ISO. Just follow the instructions here:

    Thirdly, you say you found Maverick to be slow when playing flash. That's a very specific issue and probably something which can be fixed just by installing the proprietary Adobe flash player package: flashplugin-installer

    Finally, if you have issues with your package management giving errors again it should not require a reinstall (you should never have to go to those lengths). Check back here and we should be able to help.

    I applaud your efforts. Keep it up and you should reap the rewards of a decent operating system soon!

    Thank you for all of your help! I just now found your comment in my e-mail. I figured out the torrenting process this morning & went ahead with the dvd. It's perfect! Nevertheless I still appreciate your help & I will return if I have any further problems instead of constantly reformatting. Love the music & the themes-fuckin' badass! \m/
