“The Ubuntu Satanic Edition desktop looks like no other. The moment it loads, you know you are in for a delightfully devilish treat. The first things you notice are the blazing flames and the deliciously evil satanic logo (complete with a diabolical pentagram). Much has been made of Ubuntu’s new logos but, if you ask me, Ubuntu Satanic Edition is the champ when it comes to cool logos.”

We’ve been busy in the SE foundry recently, fixing bugs and updating packages. The fruit of this labour is now available in the online repositories. The new packages are for Ubuntu jaunty 9.04 and should appear in the Update Manager automatically.
The changes include:
Kubuntu KDE 4 support
- New KDM login themes
- New Ksplash themes
- Screensaver fixed
Ubuntu Gnome updates
- New GDM login themes
- New sounds theme
General updates
- Updated usplash themes
- Usplash bugfixes
Additional stuff
- An icon theme called Buuf has also been added. It’s not paticularily satanic, but check it out:
sudo apt-get install buuf-icon-theme
There is also a new karmic repository for beta testing with the latest Ubuntu pre-release.

Now that the trademark fiasco is sorted out, we’ve relaunched our store. It’s now hosted by Zazzle and has 7 all new t-shirt designs, as well as other stuff. The designs can be used on any garment from their “dark” range, male or female, so there should be something to suit everyone.
We will keep adding to the range. So, if you have any requests let us know.
The SE team are wearing some of the new stuff and the quality from Zazzle seems very good. Let us know your thoughts.

Within a day of the Ubuntu SE store being closed down due to “intellectual Property” violation, the issue has been cleared up. Jono Bacon, the Ubuntu community manager, said the letter was “some kind of mistake” and that SE would be granted an “official trademark license”.
Thanks to everyone in the community who got behind us and also Ubuntu and Canonical for “not being evil”. That’s our job, after all.
The store will be back on line once we receive the official license agreement.

You may know that we used to have a cafepress store which sold t-shirts and stickers. It was completely commission free and we made no money from it – which made the stuff as cheap as possible. Well, it seems that Canonical is enforcing their intellectual property rights over the Ubuntu name. The store is now closed and you will no longer be able to buy any Ubuntu Satanic merchandise.
This saddens us. We are big fans of Ubuntu and have a lot of respect for Canonical. However, they need to understand that a phenomenon such as Ubuntu is only as strong as its community and alienating that community over the sale of a couple of lousy t-shirts is not the way to go.
