That, now *that*, is hillarious.
December 14th, 2006 at 12:34 am
i like the link to ubuntu christian edition. nice touch.
December 14th, 2006 at 12:34 am
Uhoh, now Microsoft has a competitor in the puppy-kicking, baby-eating market.
December 14th, 2006 at 12:44 am
Hell yeah!
(Pun intended.)
Tell me if you guys need any artwork done for the next release.
December 14th, 2006 at 12:49 am
Wow, looks amazing. I hope to see similar packages to Debian soon.
December 14th, 2006 at 1:16 am
does this also include themes for kubuntu?
December 14th, 2006 at 4:43 am
tell me are the rummors true? I heard that two windows geeks were sacraficed upon the box on which this was first compiled…. big props!
December 14th, 2006 at 5:08 am
ahh this would be hillarious - if here is some guru - make some tool that will replace strings in every binariy from “daemon” to ” demon” (insert new space character before demon, so that we could have plural form (” demons”) :D:D:D:D:D
December 14th, 2006 at 5:10 am
and the word spreads…

December 14th, 2006 at 5:10 am
oh yeah and fix chmod, so that you can only enter chmod 666
December 14th, 2006 at 5:31 am
A T T E N T I O N
ok I could do that on windows, I am just not skilled enough to do it under unixes - could somebody do simple script (that would run under root) and that would look into every file (especially binaries) and change “daemon” with ” demon”? I did the math - the chance to hit any code (that would possibly break sth) is 280 trillion : 1 (so we can assume that would be harmless…)
:D

Is this version 6.6.6?
December 14th, 2006 at 6:16 am
can you trim the iso size to 666mb? for effect
December 14th, 2006 at 6:52 am
mt: apt-get install rpl
December 14th, 2006 at 8:46 am
Phew! Thanks for the great feedback. I hope I can answer a few of your questions…
Yes, we’d love to see any artwork you have to offer. Pentagrams and “hot” babes would be nice. I love women with tails…
Debian and Kubuntu packages aren’t on the cards as of yet. If someone wants to help out and do them that would be great… I might have a go at doing 64 bit versions, though.
I thought about making it version 6.6.6, but these are pukka packages and we’d probably soon move on to version 6.6.7 - not quite the same ring to it!
December 14th, 2006 at 9:53 am
“C’est Diabolique !”
Great artwork
December 14th, 2006 at 10:28 am
“can you trim the iso size to 666mb?”
I second that. It’s a must have “feature” !
December 14th, 2006 at 11:03 am
Why transform a human beings distro, in satanic distro ? that kind of atitude without any sense …
If you wants fire, burn with Slack !
December 14th, 2006 at 11:05 am
The best screen saver to go with this theme is Xflame the guy with the Pipe can be configured with another picture but I am not sure how to do it. I know it can because Ximian did this before the Novell sell out (oops buy out)
December 14th, 2006 at 1:57 pm
This is great! I’ll see about contributing some artwork in a bit.
Too bad there’s no satanism-oriented program out there like gnomesword, though.
And yeah, I second an iso size of 666 if you were to ever create a full distro.
December 14th, 2006 at 2:37 pm
Nice
But it needs some sounds to replace the default ubuntu login and logout sounds.
December 14th, 2006 at 3:47 pm
Is there a Flying Spaghetti Monster Ubuntu?
December 14th, 2006 at 5:10 pm
Nice!
December 14th, 2006 at 6:31 pm
I think a good idea is to make a logo with GNU logo (the animal head) and put it inside a upside down pentagram. That would be a lot funny.
December 14th, 2006 at 7:49 pm
Ubuntu Suck always!!!

Thanks for that. You are a true disciple of darkness.
December 14th, 2006 at 8:57 pm
Impressive, this is a must!
December 15th, 2006 at 12:16 am
Well, well, well…
Finaly something “at the level” of Ubuntu Christian Edition.
And with a great advantage: at least is more funny and more… warm!
December 15th, 2006 at 1:38 am
First off, I’d just like to say that I love this mod, but something is wrong here. It is called Satanic Edition, yet it has nothing to do with Satanism. Anyone who has read The Satanic Bible, by Anton Szandor LaVey, would know that Satanists, such as myself, don’t even believe in a hell. The main belief in Satanism is that you should indulge yourself because no matter how much you “sin”, nothing bad is going to happen because there is no god to send you to hell. I know I sound just as bad as a Christian offended by something like this that is blasphemy to their religion, but thats what Satanists do: get pissed off when someone says that God exists. I’m not saying that this mod should be changed, I am just letting everyone know that Satanists don’t worship the devil or anything like that. I mean who would want to go to hell anyway?
December 15th, 2006 at 2:29 am
Jeebus: What do you mean? Do you know which religion has a historic record of habitually eating babies and whose followers have been kicked out of most countries where they’ve been for just that reason?
God720: Well, you are right in that it has nothing to do with Satanism. But Anton Lavey, whose real name was Howard Stanton Levy, has nothing to do with Satanism either. Both GNU and Howard Levy are jewish so this must be Judaism, then. Howard Levy did not believe in Satan, and therefore he was not a Satanist. Therefore you can’t be a Satanist from reading his books. Only people who believe in and worship Satan, are Satanists. People can’t redefine this word to mean anything they choose. If you don’t believe in anyone then you’re an atheist. Satan exists and He sees everything. So your actions do have consequences. He decides where you will go after you die. When you deny Him chances are that you won’t be let into Hell but you have to go back to Earth unless you want to go to Jehova and be devoured by angels.
December 15th, 2006 at 8:54 am
Sorry guys, I got my education in Satanism from listening to Slayer and Venom albums!
December 15th, 2006 at 8:57 am
Oh, I almost forget… the nickname Ubuntu SE is “cool” too!
A Super Enhanced evolution of the tiny Ubuntu CE.
BTW, as in the politics, talking about the “professional religious trolls” and after that “honest” start with Ubuntu CE, I’m still waiting all the other religious POS that only make sh*t at everything they touch!
For example, I’m not heard yet about:
- Ubuntu BE, the Budhist Edition
- Ubuntu ME, the Muslim Edition
(btw, for some mis-informated: “arab” isn’t a religion but a language!)
Better yet, why not a SUPER religious distro…
The Ubuntu POS, with the compilation of texts from all the religions?
(of course, with a super strong internal firewall to protect from each other)
December 15th, 2006 at 8:58 am
What we need now is an Ubuntu: Scientology release.
December 15th, 2006 at 11:33 am
mt, are you sure it is safe to just randomly changes the contents of binaries?
You have to make sure to catch every referance to them. which means you need to change archives, thus uncompressing them, changing the referance and recompressing them. Programs written to work on Ubuntu would start failling, and there are quite few, look in /etc/init.d script how many are calling start-stop-daemon ?
And you would also change all the binaries secure hashes, this could not only confuse security tools, but may cause things like apt-get to get very annoyed and display some nice ‘unauthenticated package’ messages.
Changing chmod to only permit 666, I assume you are joking?
If not then MORON!
You do know the security problems with this?
You do know that you could never make a shell script or program execuatable?
You do know that you would no longer be able to list the contents of directories?
You do know that some programs will refuse to run if you have there permissions setup wrong?
Of course you could make chmod print ‘You are soooo evil’, if someone used chmod 666, but some scripts and programs may call chmod without expecting this behaviour.
If you are wanting to change how chmod operates you should know that it is located in coreutils (according to dpkg), download the source and have fun.
December 15th, 2006 at 1:43 pm
hey gary, this is fun!
i’ll propose venoms ‘welcome to hell’ as start-up sound
December 15th, 2006 at 2:26 pm
Overkill’s “Evil Never Dies” would also be a good choice.
December 18th, 2006 at 12:11 pm
i think you must make another version.
just like : ubuntu FE (Fuck Edition)…..
December 18th, 2006 at 3:02 pm
GREAT!!
Now I can feel wonderful devilish at work
December 20th, 2006 at 2:46 am
It never ceases to amaze me what assholes with too much time on their hands can come up with. You really need to start beating off less and get a life.
December 21st, 2006 at 12:48 pm
Actually guys - rather than trying to change ‘daemon’ to ‘demon’, it would be much easier to just alter the source of bash or whatever shell you’re using to listen for ‘daemon’ on stdout, and change it to ‘demon’. Much less time-consuming. Of course, it would still appear as ‘daemon’ in a text-editor or in a GUI component or whatever, but it’s a step forward.
Oh, and to people getting offended over this: grow up.
December 31st, 2006 at 12:43 pm
Bravo, complimenti!!!!

I believe Howard Stanton Levy wrote the “Satanic Bible” for theatrical and shock value only, at the time and it has no basis in the ancient texts. Bands such as Slayer, Venom, Kreator, etc. that think they’re “satanic” but can’t give intelligent answers on their beliefs during interviews aren’t credible. I don’t know how you can learn anything about Satanism from those bands, they’re just a response of being PO’d by legalistic religious leaders (anti-christian motives). Funny how this version popped up AFTER Ubuntu Christian Edition development, or am I wrong? Its not my perogative to go around being ‘offended’ by anti-christian elements of culture nor is it my agenda to place judgement upon others (that’s the work of God). What does this have to do with OS & desktops anyway?
January 4th, 2007 at 8:24 am
You are right that the bands you mentioned aren’t “satanic” as such, just using satanism as a counter stance against the Christian cultures in their society. That is exactly what we have learnt from those bands.
You are not wrong in saying that this edition “popped up” after Ubuntu CE. It was in direct response. We’re just trying to “even the balance”.
Thanks for delegating the judgment of us to your deity. Much appreciated.
“What does this have to do with OS & desktops anyway?”. We could say the same thing about Ubuntu Christian Edition, why don’t you ask them?
January 6th, 2007 at 5:02 am
Hi. Can you make a PowerPC edition of this (if Macs aren’t so holy you can’t use one)?
January 7th, 2007 at 1:40 am
“I believe Howard Stanton Levy wrote the “Satanic Bible” for theatrical and shock value only, at the time and it has no basis in the ancient texts”
Satanic Bible is a philosophic book you idiot >.

February 7th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
Any one know any scary places to visit we are fed up of the usual and want somewhere differaant
February 7th, 2007 at 5:34 pm
Are you talking about on the ‘net or in real life?
February 7th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
If you’re looking for something scary, how about listening to some dark music. Classics like Reign in Blood or Seasons in the Abyss by Slayer should do the trick. If you prefer something a bit more modern, I recommend The End of Heartache by Killswitch Engage.
March 25th, 2007 at 10:02 am
D4rky, go back and do your research on the Satanic Bible. Thanks for the BLANKET statement about the book being ‘philisophical’, don’t know how that has anything to do with the overall intentions.
I though satanism was about chaos and imbalance, but this brings balance? Isn’t that Buddhism?
April 12th, 2007 at 6:59 pm
Losing your soul in hell is nothing to joke about. Following your current path you will come to this realization unless you allow Christ to be your Savior.
Praying user
April 15th, 2007 at 9:11 am
Well, the mark of the beast is probably copyrighted or trademarked or something, so I don’t know how far that’ll go.
“Built for Windows Vista”
a.k.a. security equivalent: chmod 666- except when you’re a user. Then it’s (Microsoft)-(RIAA)-(PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE)
April 19th, 2007 at 3:59 am
oldmanskates: Satanism is a life-loving, pleasure-seeking religion of the flesh and the material. We do whatever is beneficial to us, whatever will bring us success, without stepping on the toes of friends and strangers. Read the Satanic Bible, or check out satanism101.com to learn more about Satanism.
June 18th, 2007 at 12:18 pm
Oh, thank you! This just made my day :). A welcome antidote to CE / ME from the god botherers.
Why is SE not listed on http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/derivatives?
June 18th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
We’re not recognized as a true derivative… we’re the black sheep of the Ubuntu family.
June 18th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
“We’re not recognized as a true derivative…”
Hmmm, if the god botherers get on there and ‘we’ don’t then it’s religious persecution (although I’m more of a Pastafarian than a Satanist)!
Keep fighting the good fight.
