I love the New Headless Horseman release. I installed your userContent.css and userCrome.css in the correct directory, but I am still having dark theme issues with Firefox 3 Beta 5. Do you have a different set of .css for 8.04 Hardy Heron? The fix worked last time with Firefox 2 and Ubuntu 7.10.

Hi,
No, not yet. I’ll look into it, though.
Garry.

This stuff is awesome, thanks!

Yeah, absolutely wicked!

Hey Garry,
Mozilla doesn’t seem too concerned about dealing with dark theme issues, so editing the nsLookAndFeel.cpp and/or .css files ourselves may be the only way right now.
Ive been searching the differences between firefox 2 and 3.
Check out this link for working with dark gtk theme issues:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70315
Im not that skilled at .css editing, but if I find my own fix, I will share it with you.
The usplash stopped working on my laptop, but that may have been due to installing Hardy Heron during the beta period.
-Thanks again for all the hard work, please keep it up!

I Download Ubuntu 8.04 from the links on your Site, erased my hard disk on my laptop and did a fresh Hardy Heron install.
Then I Converted my soul and my Distro to Headless Horseman 666.4 – carefully following the order of rites and terminal command rituals instructed by this Domain.
Satanic Success. My usplash works great now.
Inhuman is my favorite theme!
Firefox 3 Beta 5 has more glitches than just Dark Theme issues.
So I removed Firefox 3, that comes with Hardy Heron, and then installed the good and stable Firefox 2 using synaptic.
The Main Menu>Applications>’Add/Remove…’ can also do the same function.
Then the Standard Dark Theme fix works:

I use NASA night launch, but a dedicated Ubuntu Satanic Edition Firefox Theme would be even better.

Hi Davey,
Nice work regarding firefox 2 – it’s a good option until the dark theme issues are sorted.
Agreed about the need for a satanic firefox theme. I don’t like any of the current dark themes myself, including night launch. I’ll make it top priority to get a theme out for fx3.

New release works great for me. My only complaint was that it changed my usplash and login screens. It was easy enough to fix, just a minor annoyance.
Thanks for keeping this distro of the beast up to speed.

Hi Matt,
I assumed that the whole point of installing the new stuff was to get the latest themes, so that’s why it installs the new usplash by deafult. As you say, it’s easy enough to change.

I’ve been using NASA Night Launch and it’s growing on me. I agree that it’s a good option until we get our own theme out.

I’d like to see some artwork of a Headless Horseman. A Nude Horsewoman would be really sizzlin.
May 5th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
We had this last time when we called the release “Grotesque Gargoyle” and people expected gargoyle artwork… which would have been cool, I agree. As would headless horseman stuff.
I’ll see whether Riven will be up for having her head chopped off for some horsewoman pics!

Now thats what Im talking about!

More icons, more devil horns, and an even darker theme would be fitting.

Great work. I have 3 questions:
How can i change the color of the windows from gray to black and the text to bright white?
Are the hard disk and dvd icons red too? because all the icons are red but the harddisk and dvd are white on my install
How do i enable the skydone i saw in the screenshots? It would be nice to have a pentagram inside the skydone to unite the corners

Hi ICE-M. Thanks for the constructive comments.
I’ve raised a bug regarding the red desktop icons:
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/satanic-icon-themes/+bug/229766
You’re right, they should be red and not white.
To change the theme colours is not trivial. You basically need to edit the file /usr/share/themes/Inhuman/gtk-2.0/gtkrc, but I’d recommend creating a new theme and changing that.
The skydome is not part of the packages yet, click on the images on the screenshots page to download it.
To set it, install the compizconfig-settings-manager package and go to:
Desktop Cube, Appearance, Skydome
Hope this helps,
Garry.

thank you for the answers. i’m new at ubuntu so i managed to broke it. i installed the ubuntu satanic again today and noticed after restart that the ubuntu boot was changed with the skulls one but the ubuntu log-in stayed the same(bug?). also the sounds remained the same(bug?). i didn’t notice that because when i first installed it i changed them all manual to the one i like before restart. how do i create a new the starting from yours? i only need to change the 2 colors and i want to use it only for me. and if you could please tell me in skydome screenshot the “lids” of pentagon are transparent in my compiz i see a color even when i set the opacity to 0. thanks you again.

Hi ICE-M,
Yes, the usplash is changed automatically, but the login, splash screen and sounds are not. There are technical reasons for this and it will probably stay this way until we release an ISO. In that case, the Satanic theme would be default for everything.
The lids, or caps, of the cube are transparent in the screenshots because when those shots were taken when Ubuntu used the Beryl manager, not Compiz-Fusion, which it uses now. I’m not sure if it’s possible on Compiz-Fusion. I’d be happy to hear if I’m wrong.
Regarding changing the colour of the theme, that’s more complicated – let me think about it.

Thank you very much for this great looks for ubuntu. I was looking for dark themes and found your site.
Since then I’m a devote of Baphomet and all his cousins…

You should say it’s edition 666.7.4, for there will be a 9.04 Ubuntu, you know…

4 isn’t the month, it’s the 4th version of SE. Intrepid will be 666.5.
